Both The Courier and Daily Comet earned the title of Newspaper of the Year from the Louisiana Press Association in their LPA divisions last year. Over the past 18 years, The Courier has claimed this title 14 times. The sister papers also include two websites, houmatoday.com and dailycomet.com.

Southwest Louisiana is in the midst of an economic boom with Sasol, based in South Africa, spending up to $21 billion at its Westlake facility. In addition to that and the liquefied natural gas projects that are under way, announced industrial projects so far total in the range of $47 billion in investments in the area. As a result, the region is growing and thriving, and the American Press has a front-row seat in reporting what's happening and when to our readers. The newspaper serves a six-parish area — Calcasieu, Cameron, Allen, Beauregard, Jeff Davis and Vernon. Under the Shearman family, the American Press has shined among Louisiana newspapers, earning Pulitzer Prize nominations for reporting and photography and winning hundreds of national and regional awards for its journalism. We continue to be the eyes and ears for Southwest Louisiana as the newspaper approaches its 125th anniversary in 2020.
