The Louisiana Press Foundation was established in 2005 to assist newspapers that suffered significant damage from hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In later years funds from the Foundation assisted newspapers seeking to recover from severe localized flooding. Since then, funds from the Foundation have been used to help defray cost of training and educational programs for Louisiana newspaper staffers.
The Foundation is managed by a board of trustees, the majority of whom are current members of the Louisiana Press Association, but also one or more non-member representatives.
