Important Notice Regarding

Use of "Super Bowl" and Other

Trademarked Phrases

Just a word about using the words “Super Bowl” in ads. Don’t.  While we are all tempted to use the words “Super Bowl” for advertisement and contests of all sorts, just a friendly reminder that the NFL has the trademark on that phrase. It’s OK to use the name and the logos for news purposes, but the league doesn’t want it to be used beyond that unless they’ve licensed it. The league is also claiming ownership of “Who Dat?” but that one isn’t quite as definitive at this point. Many of of you are probably aware that the NCAA has similar restrictions on the use of  “Final Four” and "March Madness" and a whole host of phrases it has trademarked. Also the Olympics places restrictions on the use of it’s name and logo. So be careful out there.

Here's a Washington Post article on the topic.

NewspaperProject.org was launched in 2009 by a small group of newspaper executives to support a constructive exchange of information and ideas about the future of newspapers. While we acknowledge the challenges facing the newspaper industry in today’s rapidly changing media world, we reject the notion that newspapers—and the valuable content that newspaper journalists provide—have no future.

Unlike websites that feature negative, gloom-and-doom stories about newspapers, this website will be devoted to insightful articles, commentary and research that provide a more balanced perspective on what newspaper companies can do to survive and thrive in the years ahead.
